Happy Father's Day!
Wow, what a busy Father's Day it was. We knew going into today that we had a full day planned, so we went ahead and made plans to celebrate Father's day Saturday instead. I made John biscuits and gravy for breakfast, and then we went out to dinner at his favorite steak place last night. This morning Declan and Addy presented the gifts they helped me pick out, mainly little things. He had a gift bag with a tag that said "We love our Daddy because ..." and then each of his small items had a note the finished the statement, such as "he grows food for us in his garden" with a packet of seeds, "he gets up late/early with us when we're fussy" with a box of coffee to help him stay awake, and several little things like that. The last one had a picture frame with four pictures of the kids.
We were also grateful to the U.S. Postal system for delivering our cards to my dad and father in law on time, despite the fact that I didn't mail them until Friday! Happy Father's Day Opa and Papa, glad you didn't have to wait despite my tardiness.
The reason we celebrated early was that today we had Addy's baby blessing at church, their were 8 babies that have been added to our church family this year. It was sweet to see all of them up there together and to have the church body pray for them and for us in parenting these children. Here are a couple of pictures.
We also had a big reception for some dear friends of ours this afternoon. They have lead our small group at church for the past 13 years and have hosted weekly in their home all that time. This year they have decided to step down as leaders and we wanted to bless them with a little party. It was a sweet time, but between set up, party and clean up time we were at the church building from 9:30 this morning until 5:30 this evening.
Declan had some fun playing outside while we were there today. Since when did my little boy become big enough to swing on the big swings by himself???? I managed to sneak a couple of pictures without him noticing. He was having such fun!
